The Adventure Begins

Dear Friends,

There is so much to absorb about having these two little miracles in our lives that I haven't had a chance to really grasp it yet.

Francis & his grandmother (left) Salifu with his mother& baby brother (right)

Salifu, 6 yrs old., had several machete wacks to the head about 3 years ago. His brain is literally bulging out on one side through the skull fracture. Beyond belief, he seems to be free of brain damage! He is amazing. The king of swing, a singer, dancer, charmer, with a smile that says a thousand things, he lights up our lives with non stop prattle! The fact that you cannot understand him is unimportant. This kid never stops talking.

Francis, 9 yrs., is reserved and hesitant to speak. English is new to him. Absorbing all the time, and insatiably curious, he knows more about what is in every drawer in my house than my husband. He also has an award winnning smile that melts the heart. Having been without parents for four years and now being dropped into a family is an adjustment for him. He will hopefully get in to see the burn specialist plastic surgeon for his first visit tomorrow. One hand is severly webbed from the scalding water. He has quite a story. He loves the other kids, especially Mike with whom he shares a room. All three of these boys are together in Nellie's old headquarters.

"Whatsoever you do unto the least of these, that you do unto me." (Matthew 25:40)

Jesus lives IN OUR HOME in the form of these two little people. For some reason I see this more than I did with my own children. Bathing them, teaching them how to use a bathroom, what is kleenex, trash cans, wiping tears after a bump, correcting wrong attitudes, singing in the car, fixing food, brushing teeth, medicines, hugs, tickles...this is such a privilege.

more later,

Ann
